Handmade in Aleppo, Syria, according to a traditional recipe. Each piece may vary slightly in shape and color. 100 g soap bar.

Good to know

Aleppo soap is one of the oldest soaps in the world. Traditionally, olive oil is saponified with laurel oil in large cauldrons, the soap mass is poured out on the floor, cut into pieces, and then aged in the air for months. During this process, the soap turns golden brown on the outside, while remaining olive green on the inside. The higher the proportion of laurel oil, the more intense the typical spicy aroma.

Najel is a French-Syrian brand that has been producing Aleppo soap and personal care products based on Oriental traditions for many years.

Frequently asked questions

What does the percentage of laurel oil mean?
It indicates how much laurel oil was saponified in relation to the olive oil. 5% is mild and suitable for everyday use, 12% is well suited for combination skin, and 30–40% are the variants with the highest laurel oil content.

How long does a soap bar last?
This depends on usage. If the soap can dry well between uses (soap dish or magnetic soap holder), it will last significantly longer.

Directions

  • Moisten the skin with water.
  • Lather the soap between the hands or apply directly to the face, hands, or body.
  • Gently massage in and rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Pat the skin dry with a towel.
  • For shaving: Lather the soap on damp skin, shave, and rinse thoroughly.

Tip: Store the soap dry between uses, for example on a soap dish – this will make it last longer.

Note: Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with water.

Ingredients at a glance

  • Saponified olive oil (Sodium Olivate) – the classic base of Aleppo soap – is created when olive oil is processed into soap, and provides a gentle cleanse.
  • Black cumin oil – a traditional care oil from the Orient with a spicy aroma.
  • Saponified laurel oil (Sodium Laurelate) – a typical component of Aleppo soap; the proportion of laurel oil gives each Aleppo soap its character and its spicy aroma.
  • Glycerin – retains moisture in the skin and ensures a smooth skin feel.
