Neem powder for hair and skin care

Neem (Azadirachta indica), India's "Divine Tree", is a tree of the Meliaceae family that can grow up to 30 meters tall, requires little water and has been revered as a universal remedy in Ayurveda for thousands of years – Hindu believers eat neem leaves at the beginning of the year as a propitious ritual. For the hair neem offers a wide range of effects: anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiviral, sebum-regulating, astringent and cleansing – effective against dry scalp, itching and severe dandruff, and can also be used preventively with regular application. Makes the hair shiny. For the skin neem is indicated for dermatitis, redness, acne, fungal infections, psoriasis, hives, eczema, diaper rash and pressure sores – wound-healing, sebum-regulating, anti-itching and brightening. Application

For the hair

Mix neem powder with boiling water to a yogurt-like consistency. Add other herbs as desired.
Cover the container and let macerate for 20 minutes.
Apply the paste to dry or damp hair and massage in with gentle circular motions. Work it through the lengths as well.
Leave on for 20–50 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly. If necessary, wash again with a mild, diluted shampoo. Finally, rinse with water and a little vinegar – for soft, shiny hair.

As a face mask

Mix neem with clay or other herbs.
Leave on for 10 minutes– keep the mask moist; do not let it dry out. If necessary, dampen with water or hydrosols.
Rinse off with lukewarm water.
