Indigo(Indigofera tinctoria), a shrub in the Fabaceae family, has provided the world's best-known natural blue dye since the Middle Ages – the same pigment used to dye jeans in the 19th century. Its leaves are fermented, dried, and powdered to create a natural hair dye that binds to the hair's keratin through the active ingredient indigotin– without penetrating deep into the hair like chemical dyes. This not only colors the hair but also protects it, adds volume, and increases the hair shaft diameter. Indigo produces dark brown to deep black with bluish nuancesand reliably covers gray and white hair. As a conditioning ingredient, it regulates sebum and makes the hair thicker and shinier. Shades & Mixing Ratios

Dark brown / black:Pure indigo on dark hair
On blonde hair:Apply indigo twice – or first red henna, then indigo
On white hair for even black:first red henna, then indigo (or indigo herbal blend)
Light brown to dark brown, chocolate, mahogany:Mix indigo and henna in varying proportions

Important Notes

Do not use pure indigo on white or light blonde hair – risk of unwanted green/blue hues.
Never use on bleached hair. Do not use chemical decolorants on hair colored with indigo.
Favism:Indigo powder can trigger hemolytic crises. Seek medical advice.
Store in a cool, dry place (not in the bathroom!) – protect from light sources.

Application

Mix enough indigo powder with cold or lukewarm water and wait 10 minutes.
For better adhesion: add a little baking soda or a pinch of salt to the paste.
Apply the paste to dry, completely clean hair – from the roots to the ends.
Leave on for 1–2 hours.
Rinse without shampoo. Apply conditioner if needed. Finally, rinse with water and a little vinegar – for longer-lasting color.
