Hibiscus(Hibiscus sabdariffa, known as "Jaswand" in Ayurveda, is an evergreen plant of the Malvaceae family, which originally comes from Asia Minor and reached Europe via the Ottoman Empire. For the hair, regular application keeps the hair soft, detangled, strong and shiny – effective against dandruff and scalp irritation as well as for promoting hair growth and against hair loss. The flowers also give the hair shimmering highlights– especially on blonde hair in shades from plum to strawberry. For the skin, the high vitamin C contentoffers antioxidant, wound-healing and astringent properties – ideal for acne, enlarged pores, itching, swelling and redness. Application

For the hair

Mix hibiscus powder with boiling water to a yogurt-like consistency. Add other herbs as desired.
Cover the container and let macerate for 15 minutes.
Apply the paste to dry or slightly damp hair and massage in with gentle circular motions. Work it through the lengths as well.
Leave on for 20–50 minutes – for intense highlights, leave on for 2 hours.
Rinse thoroughly. If necessary, follow with a mild, diluted shampoo.

As a face mask

Use hibiscus powder sparingly and mix with clay or other herbs to avoid unwanted discoloration on the skin.
Leave on for 10 minutes – keep the mask moist; do not let it dry. If necessary, moisten with water or floral water.
Rinse off with lukewarm water.
