Alkanna(Alkanna tinctoria), also known as madder root, is an evergreen shrub from the Boraginaceae family, whose roots produce a highly pigmented red powderwith a violet tint. As a hair dye, Alkanna gives hair soft violet, pink, or blue-purple highlights – depending on the pH level of the preparation – and makes it soft and silky. In combination with a plant oil, Alkanna nourishes and strengthens the hair. For the skin, it has antimicrobial, healing, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties– effective for eczema and psoriasis. Tested for heavy metalsand the bacterial load neutralized. Vegan OK– packaged in a recyclable inner bag and FSC outer box.

Color notes

Pink/reddish tones:Add an acidic substance (e.g., lemon juice or vinegar).
Blue/purple tones:Add approx. 4 g of baking powder per 100 g of powder (corresponds to 2 measuring spoons of 1 ml each).
When used alone, the coloring power of Alkanna is low and short-lived. For more intense results, combine with Cold Red Henna.

Application

For the hair

Mix alkanna powder with a carrier oil (recommended: castor, jojoba, almond oil, or a blend of these).
Option 1 (fast):Leave the jar in a hot water bath for 30 minutes.
Option 2 (medium):Leave to infuse at room temperature for 48 hours.
Option 3 (cold maceration):Store the tightly sealed jar in a dark place for 40 days – shake at least 2–3 times a week.
Apply the finished oil directly to the hair as a treatment, or add it to henna paste.
Note:Do not use alkanna powder with water alone – always prepare it with oil.

For the skin (face mask)

Mix alkanna with clay and/or other herbal powders (to avoid unwanted discoloration).
Leave on for 10–15 minutes – keep the mask moist; do not let it dry.
Rinse off with lukewarm water.
