Frequently Asked Questions about Face Care

I'm overwhelmed by the huge range: how do I find my way around the Face category? +
With over 400 items, it's worth browsing our six subcategories first rather than scrolling through the entire list. In Cleansers & Toners you'll find everything for the first step of your routine, from cleansing gel to micellar water to facial toner. Masks & Peels bundles weekly care such as moisturizing masks and chemical or mechanical peels, while Serums & Intensive Care gathers targeted active-ingredient concentrates for anti-aging, moisture, or blemish-prone skin. In Creams & Oils you'll find day and night creams as well as facial oils, Lip Care & UV Protection covers sun protection and lip balm, and Beard Care is specifically for shaving and beard routines. Using the brand filter, you can also search specifically for brands such as Bioderma, La Roche-Posay, or Avril Cosmetics if you already have a preference.
How do I build a sensible face care routine? +
For an effective routine, we generally recommend this order, both morning and evening: first cleanse with a product from our Cleansers & Toners category, then apply a toner or facial water to balance your skin's pH. Next comes a serum from Serums & Intensive Care, which specifically targets your skin concern, before a cream from Creams & Oils locks in the moisture. In the morning, you should always finish your routine with a sun protection product from our Lip Care & UV Protection category, while in the evening you can instead use a richer night cream if needed. Peels and masks from Masks & Peels don't belong in the daily routine, but come into play once or twice a week after cleansing and before the serum. It's important to introduce new active ingredients like retinol or acids gradually rather than starting everything at once, so the skin has time to adjust.
How do I find the right care for my skin type? +
For oily or blemish-prone skin, it's worth looking at light, gel-like textures as well as products with salicylic acid or niacinamide, which regulate excess sebum without drying out the skin. Dry skin, on the other hand, benefits from richer creams and oils with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or shea butter, which specifically support the skin barrier. Combination skin often needs a combination, for example lighter moisturizing care in the T-zone and a richer cream on the cheeks. For sensitive or redness-prone skin, we generally recommend products labeled 'for sensitive skin' or 'reactive skin', as offered by many dermocosmetic brands. If you're not sure about your skin type, a simple test helps: wash your face, wait an hour without any further care, and observe where shine or a feeling of tightness appears, this already gives good clues about dry, oily, or combination skin areas.
What's the difference between dermocosmetic brands, natural cosmetics, and modern vegan brands in your range? +
We deliberately carry three different approaches, so there's something for every skin need. Dermocosmetic brands such as Bioderma, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, and Eucerin are developed in collaboration with dermatologists and are especially designed for sensitive, irritation-prone, or medically stressed skin. Certified natural cosmetics brands such as Avril Cosmetics, CMD Naturkosmetik, Uoga Uoga, and Mossa, by contrast, rely on certified organic raw materials, plant-based actives, and transparency about origin. Modern, scientifically oriented vegan brands such as Newwell or Geoderm combine both worlds, relying on clinically tested actives with a vegan, often prebiotic formulation at the same time. Which direction suits you best depends mainly on whether medically tested effectiveness, certified natural cosmetics, or a modern, scientifically grounded alternative matters most to you.
What do terms like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or retinol on the packaging mean, and how do I generally find out what's in a product? +
You'll always find the complete composition of every product in the INCI list on the product page, regardless of brand. A quick overview of the most common actives is worth it: hyaluronic acid binds moisture in the skin and suits almost every skin type, niacinamide (vitamin B3) regulates sebum production and reduces redness, while vitamin C is mainly used for a more radiant complexion and as an antioxidant. Retinol promotes cell renewal and is often used against fine lines, but makes skin more sensitive to sun, which is why extra sun protection is always necessary during the day. With natural cosmetics brands such as Avril or CMD Naturkosmetik, the organic percentage as well as certifications such as Cosmos Organic are also frequently shown on the product page. If you have known allergies or sensitive skin, we generally recommend checking the INCI list before buying and introducing new active ingredients gradually rather than testing several new products at once.
Which care is suitable for sensitive or allergy-prone skin? +
For sensitive or reaction-prone skin, we recommend first taking a look at our dermocosmetic brands such as Bioderma, La Roche-Posay, or Eucerin, whose products are specifically developed for sensitive, redness-prone, or medically stressed skin and frequently avoid fragrances. As a general rule, though, regardless of brand: you should first test any new product on a small area of skin such as the crook of your arm before applying it over a larger area of the face, since even products marketed as sensitive can trigger reactions with individual allergies. If you have known contact allergies, it's also worth taking a close look at the INCI list to specifically rule out known triggers such as certain fragrances or preservatives. If redness, itching, or other reactions persist, you should stop using the product immediately and, if in doubt, consult a dermatologist.
How important is sun protection for the face really – and what should I pay attention to? +
Sun protection is one of the most effective tools against premature skin aging and should therefore be part of your routine year-round, even on cloudy days and in winter, since UV-A radiation affects the skin year-round regardless of weather. For everyday use, an SPF of 30 is usually enough; for longer time outdoors, fair skin, or increased sun sensitivity, we recommend SPF 50. Apply sun protection as the last step of your morning routine, after serum and cream but before make-up, and remember to reapply regularly during longer time outdoors, since the protective effect diminishes over time. Products such as Newwell's Aloe Vera Sunscreen SPF 50+ or sun protection from our Lip Care & UV Protection category are suitable for both everyday use and more intense sun exposure. Don't forget your lips either, which can dry out from UV radiation and benefit from a lip balm with UV protection.
How do the different brand categories in your face care range differ from each other? +
Dermocosmetic pharmacy brands such as Bioderma, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, and Eucerin stand out through clinically tested effectiveness and are frequently also recommended by dermatologists, especially for specific skin needs such as acne, rosacea, or very dry skin. Certified natural cosmetics brands such as Avril Cosmetics and CMD Naturkosmetik score points with plant-based formulas, transparency, and sustainability, but tend to appeal more to customers without strongly specific skin problems. Modern brands such as Newwell position themselves in between, with vegan, scientifically grounded formulas at an attractive price, but without the long-standing medical track record of classic dermocosmetics. Which direction you choose ultimately depends on whether you want to treat a specific skin problem, value certified natural cosmetics, or are looking for a modern, attractively priced alternative, combining several brands within one routine is entirely common.
