Frequently Asked Questions about Bioderma

Where does Bioderma come from, and what makes the brand special? +
Bioderma was founded in France in 1977 and belongs to the NAOS Group, with its research center in Aix-en-Provence. As early as its founding year, the brand launched Nodé, the first soap-free shampoo, and later Sensibio H2O, the world's first micellar water, a genuine cosmetics innovation. To this day, Bioderma works according to the principle of 'Ecobiology': formulas are designed to respect the skin's natural biology rather than cover it up.
What does 'biomimetic' or 'Ecobiology' actually mean at Bioderma? +
Biomimetic ingredients are active substances whose composition naturally occurs in the skin, such as lipids modeled on the skin's own cell membranes. The goal behind this: the skin recognizes the ingredients as 'familiar' and reacts with irritation less often than with highly synthetic formulas. That's why many Bioderma products get by with comparatively few, but specifically selected, ingredients.
Which product line suits me – for blemish-prone, dehydrated, or very dry skin? +
Happy to break it down: products for blemish-prone skin, such as the Moisturizing Cream for Blemish-Prone Skin, belong to the Sébium line and regulate sebum production without drying skin out. The Intensive Moisturizing Serum for dry skin comes from the Hydrabio range and is designed for acute water loss. The Intensive Gel-Cream for very dry skin belongs to the Atoderm family and is also suitable for skin prone to neurodermatitis.
Can a moisturizer for blemish-prone skin clog pores? +
No, that's a widespread misconception: even oily, blemish-prone skin needs moisture, since overly aggressive, drying care can actually stimulate sebum production even more. The Moisturizing Cream for Blemish-Prone Skin is specifically formulated to be non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn't clog pores, while also regulating excess shine. If you're also looking for targeted cleansing, you'll find matching products in our Cleansers & Toners category.
How and when should I apply the Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Serum for best results? +
The serum goes on after cleansing and before your moisturizer, onto still slightly damp skin, morning and evening. Hyaluronic acid draws water from the surrounding air into the skin, which is why following up with a cream is important, to lock that moisture in. For an extra moisture boost, the serum pairs especially well with the Light 72h Moisturizing Cream.
Is the Ultra-Nourishing Body Cream also suitable for very dry skin or skin prone to neurodermatitis? +
Yes, the body cream is specifically developed for intensely dry skin conditions and provides rich, long-lasting moisture. For already diagnosed neurodermatitis, we still recommend using this care as a complement to medically prescribed treatment rather than as a standalone solution. The 500ml size is well suited for large-area, regular use over the whole body.
Are Bioderma products fragrance-free and suitable for allergy sufferers? +
Many Bioderma products, especially from the Sensibio and Atoderm lines, are deliberately formulated fragrance-free to minimize the risk of irritation for sensitive skin. Since formulas can change over time, we still recommend checking the current ingredient list on the relevant packaging, especially if you have known fragrance allergies.
How does Bioderma differ from other dermatological brands in your range? +
Bioderma is the brand in our range with the strongest focus on biomimetic formulas modeled on skin biology, a concept the brand helped pioneer with micellar water. La Roche-Posay, by contrast, relies on selenium-rich thermal spring water as its consistent base, while CeraVe specializes especially in ceramides to rebuild the skin barrier. For us, Bioderma remains the right choice if you're looking for gentle, scientifically grounded care for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
